Update 15 Feb 2023

It was pleasing to see a report in mainstream media this week that wasn’t singing from the Transport songbook. For the full read, see:  http://tinyurl.com/y54ujxyh

One of our supporters has contributed these words:

“The TfNSW linear ramp is substandard and does a lot of unnecessary damage: the Community Cycle Ramp alternative is far superior, will do no damage, serves more customers, and can better convey all sorts of cycle users that may wish to cross the SHB. The community fully supports a ramp as the best solution, and the CCR alternative is by far the most appropriate and affordable. TfNSW botched the whole design process, and has since been attempting to demonise the Community and to virtue signal to the single-issue cycle lobbyists. The CCR is a win-win for all of us, local cyclists and commuter cyclists, and much better for all potential tourists coming from the south to the foreshore attractions at Kirribilli and Milsons Point. Heritage is respected, Milsons Point is enhanced and everyone benefits.

The TfNSW linear ramp solution is a dreadful mistake; the CCR alternative has the full support of North Sydney Council, local community, and more than 8,500 petitioners.

Minister Haylen has been sorely misled by her department, and has refused all requests from the Community for a meeting to discuss the advantages of the CCR. What is she afraid of? The hubris and rhetorical utterings that her minions pen for her are not only puerile, but false. She can either own those errors, and pay the price of posterity’s disdain of her, or, she could exercise mature wisdom and take full account of the advice that the IMBY community is presenting to her. Yes, the IMBY community welcomes a ramp access to the SHB, but it should not be at the expense of wrecking the existing fabric, and it should also be the very best solution to meet the needs of this place. That is true Design Excellence. The naked self-interested intransigence of the TfNSW bureaucracy is trashing public trust in political institutions and public agencies.”

So there it is. We are staying focused on the positives of the Community Cycle Ramp. It offers what cyclists want, caters to all users, is safer for all (including pedestrians) and preserves the heritage features of the area and harbour bridge. Win/Win.

best wishes, Ian
