Update 6 Mar 2024
You may have seen today’s Sydney Morning Herald which announced a contractor had been appointed to construct the linear ramp. That contractor is Arenco (NSW) Pty Ltd, a part of Daracon Group. It would be good to acquaint the contractor with the back story to this saga.
The article said “that last year North Sydney Council voted to give the state government access to Bradfield Park to build the cycleway in exchange for $2.5m…” Attempting to correct the record, I said in two letters to the editor that the landholder (North Sydney Council) was coerced into allowing the application by TfNSW to the Heritage Council to proceed – but that is all. It did not permit construction. Indeed, under the terms of the Trust which governs Bradfield Park, Council cannot deal (sell, lease etc) in the land.
Seemingly the last line of defence now is for North Sydney Council to take a principled stand and defend the interests of the Trust’s beneficiaries. There is a better way, the Community Cycle Ramp, and putting this to your Councillors anew will help. Emails to: council@northsydney.nsw.gov.au
