Update 5 Feb 2024

You may recall past updates decrying the PR spin practiced by Transport. We’d been told that the Community Cycle Ramp had been independently reviewed. It was not – so I complained to the Ombudsman and have received a response, saying in part:

“I acknowledge the concerns about the ‘Bradfield Park Central Cycle Ramp Review’ report presented to the Minister’s office .. was not impartial, as TfNSW had direct involvement in the preparation of the report.”

Thus ministers and parliamentarians, as well as the Heritage Council, North Sydney Council and you, the wider public have been deceived by TfNSW. The Community Cycle Ramp was not independently and impartially reviewed. The whole ramp process needs to be re-evaluated.

Under the Ombudsman Act 1974, the Ombudsman is unable to investigate Ministers and it is a matter for the Minister to decide whether to query or seek any clarifications from TfNSW. It was felt “we have no evidence of unreasonable or unlawful conduct.” Case closed.

Regardless, the Community Cycle Ramp remains the only option that delivers rideable step free access to the harbour bridge without destroying the heritage features of the locality and in a safer manner. A Win/Win outcome. Please trumpet its worth.

Thank you, Ian
