A National Petition to Transform Britain’s Pubs into Community Learning & Wellbeing Hubs

Across Britain, pubs are closing at an alarming rate. Rising costs, reduced footfall, changing habits, and increasing pressure from all directions are pushing many much-loved local venues to the brink.

But what if, instead of watching our pubs disappear, we brought them back to life in a new way — without banning alcohol, without blaming anyone, and without turning pubs into sterile corporate spaces?

What if our pubs became the heart of the community again — places of music, learning, laughter, nourishment, connection, and care?

That is exactly what this national petition is calling for.

🍺➡️🍹 THE IDEA: A NEW FUTURE FOR THE BRITISH PUB
We are proposing a voluntary, government-supported scheme that allows pubs to opt into becoming:

Community learning centres
Live music & cultural spaces
Hubs for healthy drinks like kombucha, juices & fermented tonics
Safe, welcoming spaces for connection, not just consumption
Bridges between pubs, schools, and churches
Places where people of all ages once again belong
Alcohol stays legal. Nothing is banned.
But for the first time, pubs are fully supported to offer exciting, profitable alternatives alongside it.

💷 WHAT PUBS WOULD RECEIVE
If this scheme is backed nationally, participating pubs would be eligible for:

✅ Government grants for:

Kombucha & natural drink brewing stations
Industrial-grade water filtration systems
Digital presentation setups (screens, projectors, sound systems)
Ethical musical instruments for daily live music sessions
✅ Ongoing support for:

Visiting speakers & demonstrators
Fermentation & food preservation workshops
Music, open-mic, karaoke & cultural events
Community wellbeing activities
✅ A guaranteed NEW customer base through:

Government-funded daily vouchers for non-alcoholic drinks
Increased footfall from families, older residents & young people
Schools, churches & community groups using the space
Health-conscious customers who currently avoid pubs
✅ Long-term financial protection

Subsidies during transition
Protection against footfall collapse
Support through cost-of-living pressures
In plain terms:

More grants. More customers. More stability. More life in your pub.

🤝 WHY THIS MATTERS TO LANDLORDS
Right now, too many landlords are being forced to choose between:

Cutting staff
Raising prices
Reducing opening hours
Or closing completely
This scheme offers:

A new revenue stream
A new identity for your pub
A new reason for people to come through your doors daily
And a way to future-proof your business for the next generation
You would not be “losing your pub”.
You would be expanding it.

🏘️ WHY THIS MATTERS TO CUSTOMERS & COMMUNITIES
Loneliness is rising. Addiction is rising.
Young people are disconnected.
Older people are isolated.
Neighbourhoods feel fragmented.

This scheme restores:

Shared space
Shared skills
Shared music
Shared nourishment
Shared responsibility for one another
It brings people together without shame, without judgement, and without forcing anyone to change who they are.

🖊️ WHAT THIS PETITION IS ASKING FOR
We are asking the Government to:

Launch a national pilot across 100 pubs
Fund the equipment, training, and transition
Introduce daily non-alcoholic drink vouchers
Form a national working group with landlords, councils, schools & churches
Protect pubs as essential community assets

✅ HOW EASY IT IS TO SUPPORT
Signing this petition takes less than 60 seconds.

You can support as:

A pub owner
A customer
A musician
A parent
A teacher
A health worker
A local resident
Or simply someone who doesn’t want to lose another pub on their street
Every signature:

Strengthens the case for funding
Increases political pressure
Helps unlock grants, equipment, and customers for pubs
Moves this from an idea to a national reality

🌱 THIS IS NOT ABOUT SHUTTING PUBS DOWN — IT’S ABOUT BRINGING THEM BACK
This is a plan to:

Make pubs safer
Make them busier
Make them healthier
Make them more creative
Make them financially secure
And make them matter again
If our pubs disappear, something irreplaceable disappears with them.
But if we act now, we can give them a future that works for everyone.
