Save our Neighborhoods!

The Issue

Update:  The City of Kansas City, MO's Capitol Improvements Department announces that they have purchased 2601 Brooklyn Avenue, and released proceeds to the owner.  Meanwhile, a 72yr old neighbor is begging the City to make her whole and provide her with resources to find a replacement property. The City of Kansas City, MO wants this elder resident to obtain a new mortgage while her health is failing.  Is that fair?

Update:  President Obama, in his State of the Union Address, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, agrees that homeownership is the cornerstone of the American Dream.  He wants to restore the faith in this dream and help fulfill and protect the dream!   Based on his commitment to protecting the American dream of homeownership, Eminent Domain, is a direct and real threat!

The City of Kansas City, MO has agreed by its own Heart of the City Plan, to invest dollars in to restoring the Eastside historic neighborhoods. Instead of following the plan they've laid out, they want to uproot more than 45 homeowners; plus other tenants to build a police station and crime lab in the area. They're reporting that such a development is going to spur economic growth but have failed to provide the national model which supports that a police station and crime lab will create sustainable jobs and grow the economy. By the very nature of a police station, it has never been an economic engine. Tell Kansas City, MO officials that they are crazy speculators! Help keep homeownership alive! Tell them to find another, more appropriate and suitable location!

The City of Kansas City, MO is touting 500 temporary construction jobs.  Where are the sustainable jobs for the very poor and underserved?

The City looks to place a police station and crime lab on a 70% occupied neighborhood.  The City argues that the area is blighted but failed to add that the surrounding neighborhoods are MUCH more blighted and vacant than the 2600 blocks between Brooklyn Avenue and Prospect Avenue.  Why was a mostly occupied neighborhood selected over these locations?

The City of Kansas City, MO also fails to mention that the entire east side of Kansas City, MO will be left with inadequate access to police station if the police station is positioned in the affected neighborhood.    Tell the City of Kansas City, MO to stop the politics and serve the people of Kansas City, MO.  Stop trying to convince yourselves that this action is good for the people of Kansas City, MO.  Stop the horse and pony show and get to the business of making our City great!

STOP CENSORING THE WENDELL PHILLIPS NEIGHBORHOOD!

Re-open the site selection process for adequate public engagement!
