Stop the Carnage in Kangaroo Ground

Nillumbik’s native wildlife are being decimated due to the actions of a reception centre at 130

Eltham-Yarra Glen Rd, Kangaroo Ground.

Peaceful valley becomes outdoor nightclub.

When operating, loud unrestrained noise reverberates through the normally-peaceful valley.

Large Flood lights burst across the paddocks.

Wildlife are forced to flee their habitats in panic onto the 80 kph Eltham-Kangaroo Ground Rd. There is a marked increase in fatalities.

Bright spot lights shine directly into neighbours’ homes. Screaming outdoor patrons party into the dead of night.

Permit not complied with. This area is Zoned Rural Residential, Nillumbik’s Green wedge policies are being trashed.

The company’s operating permit prohibits:

- serving of alcohol outdoors

- creating excessive outdoor noise

- shining spotlights that impact neighbours and the valley’s environment.

All of this occurs routinely.

No permit obtained for changes

The new owners have almost doubled the size of the reception centre without obtaining any

permits. They have now applied for retrospective approval. They are also now applying to almost

double the size where alcohol can be served and consumed outside – the cause of most of the noise pollution.

Neighbours’ pleas ignored

Neighbours’ pleas to Nillumbik Shire Council for proper noise attenuation and lighting controls, and to Liquor Control Victoria for compliance with the liquor licence, have been so far ignored.

Please help our wildlife.

We the undersigned urge Nillumbik Shire Council and Liquor Control Victoria to:

- Refuse the application of 130 Eltham-Yarra Glen Rd, Kangaroo Ground for a retrospective permit for changes that have been made

- Enforce compliance with the existing planning permit in relation to noise pollution outdoors

and lighting attenuation

- Enforce compliance with the liquor licence

- Refuse any expansion of where liquor can be served or consumed outdoors.

Issuing of the permit and licence will directly cause ongoing wildlife fatalities and forever destroy neighbours’ ability to enjoy their homes whenever the centre is operating.

There is a place in the Green Wedge Shire for venues like this. However, we believe they must be good corporate citizens that comply with permits and licences, like  nearby Fondata Restaurant and St Andrews Pub.
