Tauranga City Council (TCC) have pushed for construction of a large commercial building on 7000m2 of public land known as Marine Park at Sulphur Point.

They claim because its for research & education that this justifies the loss of this important & treasured green space reserve gifted to the people of Tauranga over 40 years ago for all time. TCC have no right to do this and are not actively seeking any public input. TCC instead conducted some very low key consultation & refused to allow any open public debate. They rejected all submissions against their plan and presented a very one sided totally unsubstantiated argument. 

The decision has been made by TCC and their bulldozers will likely be moving in this year to rip up the ground to prepare for construction. TCC's CEO Marty Grenfell has refused to allow any further public debate as there was little or none. They have blindly rejected their own Reserve Management Plan which requires TCC to protect all green space in the park. We must show public outrage at their plan & demand the reserve reclassification is stopped allowing for open & frank public discussions to take place.
