Save Louisiana Wildlife and Deliver Justice to Locals Affected by the Roseland, LA Fire
The Issue
UPDATE 9/12/25:
As of 9/11/25, there are aerial photos and video showing the failure of the absorbent booms that agencies places in the Tangipahoa River and the toxic oil and chemical sludge has now officially entered Lake Pontchartrain.
It has also been discovered that oil is still actively leaking into the river and there are ponds full of this oil sludge. Officials are still waiting for the right time to test ground and well water, but there are locals showing evidence of contaminated drinking water with oil sheen and horrid smells coming off their water. Yet, the local government continues to tell these people that the water is safe, the local school and public access areas are safe, despite the test samples from Scott Smith and his team are showing this is not the case at all.
Government agencies and local authorities are hoping the chemical leak with dilute itself down the river and into our beautiful lake, but this is not how these chemicals work. The dioxins, hydrocarbons, and heavy metals are and will continue to seep into the ground and infiltrate water sources. Animal and plant life are being impacted. Human life is being impacted. This affects the local livestock, crop harvest, fishing, and future births of all local residents.
Please take the time to sign and share this petition and at the bottom are the email submission forms and office phone numbers of Louisiana State Representatives.
We will keep making it difficult for these officials to just sweep the rural communities of Louisiana under the rug. This is not what we elected them into office for!

Please take a moment from your busy schedule to hear my deepest felt concerns regarding the chemical fire that occurred in Roseland, LA at 12:50pm on 08/22/2025.
This fire burned large quantities of gasoline, engine oil, antifreeze, various other lubricants and their containers and then had to be put out with a large amount of fire extinguishing foam, which that in itself consists of AFFF’s and PFAS’s. These burning chemicals release highly carcinogenic potential forever compounds consisting of hydrocarbons and dioxins, meaning they take an average of 10-15 years to break down while damaging DNA and causing birth defects and must be contained and processed.
The soot, unburned oils, and foam have already passed thru the booms and suction hoses that the agencies have haphazardly placed too late on the Tangipahoa River, meaning that these toxic chemicals will be reaching Lake Pontchartrain soon if not already there. There is also considerable residues on both public and private properties ranging from Denham Springs into Washington Parish. The private property owners have been instructed to call hotlines or try to clean their properties themselves, despite these compounds being dangerous to both plant and animal life.
The chemical plant, Smitty’s Supply, appears to have previous violations and the property was not properly organized to handle the amount of chemicals and tanks that were on site. Not to mention, the small rural town it was located in is not equipped to handle this magnitude of an emergency if the site’s fail-safes and containment protocols fail, which is what appears to have happened. This will potentially leave the immediate area, and those areas downstream of the river, to be future cancer hot-spots.
We the People should urge our elected officials to consider implementing more funding and oversight into making sure these smaller plant sites located in our beautiful state of Louisiana are following safety guidelines and are correcting any violations that agencies like OSHA, DEQ, or EPA files against them, as well as holding the agencies themselves accountable for assistance and efficient monitoring efforts of both these plants and the local city and parish governments.
This event is a tragedy for both the families of the community that relied on that plant for livelihood as well as the environment where locals fish, swim, and enjoy the beauty that is Louisiana.
Our state would be nothing without it’s lush greenery, clean rivers, and clean air that all of it’s people and wildlife deserve to enjoy for many generations to come.
Let our voices be heard with this petition today!
