Save Larkhall Bank of Scotland from Closure

The Issue

As the local councillor for Larkhall, I am deeply concerned about the proposed closure of our Bank of Scotland branch. This decision would have a serious impact on our elderly residents, vulnerable members of the community, and local businesses who rely on face-to-face banking services.

Banks continue to push people toward online services with little thought for those who cannot easily access them. Many local families rely on public transport, and for residents coming from rural areas such as Netherburn and Ashgill, travelling further afield for basic banking is neither practical nor fair.

This move risks pushing people into isolation, particularly older residents who depend on personal interaction for advice and support. It will also harm local businesses and have a negative effect on our town centre, which depends on the footfall that the bank brings.

Once again, banks are showing they are more interested in profit than in their customers or communities. It’s worth remembering that when the banks needed help, it was the taxpayer who bailed them out now they should be giving back to our communities, not withdrawing from them.

We therefore formally request a review of this decision to close the Larkhall branch and call for an independent review into this closure and that the planned closure is paused until the outcome of this review.

Please sign this petition to show your support for keeping vital banking services in our town.
