Save Lancelin sand dunes from extinction due to sand mining

Save Lancelin sand dunes from extinction due to sand mining
The issue
Sand mining is destroying Lancelin dunes
We need your support to stop sand mining in Lancelin’s sand dunes, a WA tourist icon and important natural landmark. If we don’t stop sand mining, in less than 25 years, there will only be a small section of dunes left, and even those have already been carved up for mining.
If you’ve ever sand boarded or slid down our dunes, driven your car, motorbike, dune buggy or push bike through them, or just walked up them to take in the stunning views, especially at dawn and sunset then please sign our petition so that future generations can enjoy the same experience!
Show the government of Western Australia how important these dunes are to the State. It is the only way we are going to win this fight.
About the situation
Lancelin’s iconic sand dunes have been a feature of this landscape for 4,000 years. If we don't stop sand mining now, in less than 25 years they will have taken most of the dunes away.
These dunes attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and contribute around $30 million in tourism income to the State and local community. They are also a central natural landmark for the town and the region.
There are more than 35 other sources of high quality and low-cost lime sand that farmers are able to access right now, and multiple other large deposits that could be brought online, if needed to meet demand.
There is absolutely no need to destroy a tourist and natural icon to meet the needs of farmers.
This is not a fight against farmers. Nor is it a fight against sand mining in general. All we are saying is revoke one mining licence to preserve the Lancelin dunes forever.
Unfortunately, there is a belief within government that mining, and tourism can co-exist in the Lancelin dunes! They are clearly unaware of the visible impact mining is having on the aesthetic value of the dunes.
To win this fight we will need A LOT of support from the public. Your signature on this petition will be vital to achieving this.
