The Issue

For decades, EZ's Burger Deluxe has nourished Wenatchee with not only the best burgers in town but also a welcoming atmosphere and a gluten-free menu that serves as a haven for many families—including mine. It's one of the few places my family and I can enjoy a meal together, knowing the food is safe for our dietary needs and delicious beyond compare.

However, this cherished local spot is under imminent threat due to plans set forth by Mayor Mike Poirier, which propose using eminent domain to take over the property for a turn lane and a separate bike path project. EZ’s owner Pete Ezetta, 78, who has devoted 35 years of his life to building this community cornerstone, stands to lose everything he's worked for without any regard or acknowledgment of the impact on local business and the community.

EZ’s Burger Deluxe is not just a restaurant, it’s a legacy and a piece of Wenatchee's heart. Losing it would mean tearing away not only jobs and economic activity but also a beloved gathering spot that holds countless cherished memories for residents.

Mayor Mike Poirier's proposed changes are important, but they should not come at the expense of well-established and beloved local businesses. We need to seek alternative solutions that preserve both the progress of our city and the legacy of its small businesses.

Join us in urging the city decision-makers to reconsider the current plans and find a path that allows EZ's Burger Deluxe to continue serving the community as it has done for decades. Let's show our support for Ezetta and protect Wenatchee's cherished establishments. Sign the petition today to oppose the destruction of EZ's Burger Deluxe.

Your support can make a difference in keeping the spirit of Wenatchee alive and thriving. Please sign to help us protect what makes our city unique.

Thank you for caring about the changes we are planning to make to our city’s roads. I want to give you an update about a big project happening on North Wenatchee Avenue. This project may affect nearby businesses and properties, so we want to make sure you know what’s going on and how we’re handling it. What’s Happening on North Wenatchee Avenue The City is working on a project to make North Wenatchee Avenue safer and easier to drive on. Here are the most important things to know: • The project is between Horse Lake Road and Harbor Freight. • In the last 10 years, there have been more than 300 car crashes on this part of the road. Many of them happened when people were turning in or out of driveways or at intersections. • Because North Wenatchee Avenue is part of a State highway (SR 285), we have to follow special rules from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). • To help prevent these crashes, we’re planning to build a raised median (a divider in the middle of the road) and change where and how people can turn. • U-turns will be added at Maiden Lane and Horse Lake Road so drivers can still reach their destinations safely. • This project has been needed for a long time and is already paid for by the State. • Even though the road belongs to the State, the City of Wenatchee is leading the project, in partnership with WSDOT, so we can make sure it works well for our community. Impacts to EZ’s Property We know that big projects like this can be a worry, especially for people who live or work near the road. Here’s what we’re doing to be fair and helpful: • We’ve shared early designs with EZ’s and nearby property owners and businesses so we can hear their concerns and make changes if needed. • We will keep meeting with property owners as the project moves forward. • If we do need to buy property, the City will ensure fair compensation, including assistance for relocation and business re-establishment. • An independent appraiser (someone who doesn’t work for the City) will decide if any land needs to be purchased or if any damages are due to property owners. • No land has been purchased yet, and no offers or prices have been discussed. If you have any questions or want to know more, please reach out to the City. Thank you again for caring about our city and for being part of this important work to make Wenatchee safer for everyone. Sincerely, Mayor Mike Poirier
