Save Devonfield Bushland at Miandetta

The issue

For more that 50 years this bushland of almost 35 hectares has been untouched, wildlife have been able to survive there, whilst the area around has been built up and urbanised. This land is a natural wildlife corridors linking the Kelsey Tiers to the Mersey River and is home to many of a our threatened and endangered species including the burrowing crayfish and masked owls and Eucalyptus Ovata.

The proposed approval  of subdivision of 7 lots could potential be built into a mini suburb with all the natural elements of the bushland certainly lost.

The emotive argument that the land will be used to support people with disabilities in not valid. With the introducing of the (NDIS) National Disability Insurance Scheme (ADE’s) Assisted Disability Enterprises have funds allocated federally for the operation of the core business of their operation as well as individuals having funds allocated directly to their own packages to enable work options. There is a move away from ADE’s nationally to better integrate PWD into mainstream society and the segregation of PWD is now to be relegated to past history for the betterment of our society as a whole. We all belong together with equity and personal integrity of a fulfilling working life.

Looking at the big picture of climate, science scientific evidence is now irrefutable that if nothing is done now, our world is lost. That is the big picture but what does that mean in local terms, the small picture? Climate Change is a real issue and  the loss of habitat and destruction of our natural environment incrementally, like this subdivision is what impacts us locally.  Small losses locally added up worldwide meaning our planet is dying, rising Temperatures and more weather dramatic events, floods and fires will happen and impact all of us. This is how at a local level we can make change by drawing a line in the sand and say enough is enough!

It means that we have a responsibility to protect remnant bush land in our communities for future generation and not sell it off just for money and for short term profits and gains. We need to save our bushland now for the future of our local city and for our children and generations to come!
