Save Ashfield from further high density developments and improve infrastructure

Petition to Reject Further High-Density Development in Ashfield and Demand Urgent Infrastructure Upgrades

To: Inner West Council, NSW Planning Authorities, and Relevant Government Representatives

We, residents, business owners, and community members of Ashfield are writing to express our strong opposition to any future development proposals that involve the construction of additional high-density residential units and buildings within Ashfield.

Ashfield is already one of the most densely populated areas in the Inner West. The continued push for additional residential developments in an already crowded suburb places is an unbearable strain on our local infrastructure, amenities, roads, and overall quality of life.

Key Concerns:
Overdevelopment and Density Pressure:

Ashfield has reached a saturation point in terms of high-rise and multi-unit dwellings.
Further developments will only exacerbate congestion, overcrowding, noise, and reduced access to public and green spaces.

Severely Inadequate Infrastructure:

Roads such as Milton Street, Liverpool Road, Elizabeth Street, and Frederick Street, along with surrounding local streets, are already under severe pressure.
Peak hour traffic regularly causes gridlock within Ashfield, with residents often stuck for long periods trying to move in or out of the suburb.
Lack of Proper Urban Planning and Traffic Management:

There has been years of neglect in addressing traffic flow, road upgrades, and transport planning.
No meaningful improvement has been made to road infrastructure despite the increase in population and vehicle use.

Severe Parking Shortages:

There is insufficient parking for both residents and local shoppers, negatively impacting local businesses and livability.
New developments often offer minimal or no real parking options, worsening the existing problem.

We Demand:

A Moratorium on New High-Density Developments in Ashfield until proper infrastructure and urban planning are implemented.
Immediate upgrades and widening of key roads including Milton St, Liverpool Rd, Elizabeth St, Frederick St, Bland st and adjoining roads to improve traffic flow and safety.
Improved traffic management strategies, including better traffic light coordination, alternative routes, and road capacity analysis.
Investment in increased parking availability for both residents and businesses, including the creation of new parking structures or lots.
Ashfield deserves balanced, sustainable, and community-first planning that considers the well-being of current residents—not just the interests of developers.

We urge Council and State Authorities to act responsibly and protect the character, functionality, and liveability of our community

We are looking forward to hearing from you, and to have our concerns to be taken in consideration so Ashfield Residents can have a better quality of life.

Thank you and Kind regards
