Santa Ana needs help with cat overpopulation
Santa Ana needs help with cat overpopulation
The Issue
We are residents of Santa Ana, California, and we are facing a serious and growing cat overpopulation crisis in our community.
Every day, neighbors are finding abandoned kittens, pregnant stray cats, and sick animals in our streets. At the same time, local shelters and rescues are overwhelmed and often unable to accept more animals due to lack of space and resources.
Many residents are trying to help on their own by feeding, rescuing, and fostering animals, but the problem continues to grow faster than the community can manage.
One of us personally rescued a mother cat and her kittens, and before she could even find help, the mother became pregnant again. This shows how quickly the cycle continues without proper sterilization programs.
We are respectfully asking the City of Santa Ana and Mayor Valerie Amezcua to take stronger action by:
• Expanding free or low-cost spay/neuter programs
• Supporting Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs for feral cats
• Providing mobile or community-based sterilization clinics
• Increasing support for local volunteers and rescue groups
• Promoting public education on responsible pet ownership and preventing abandonment
We believe prevention is the most humane and cost-effective solution. Spay/neuter programs reduce suffering, reduce shelter overcrowding, and help the entire community.
We are not asking for blame — we are asking for solutions and cooperation between the city and its residents.
Thank you for taking the time to support this important issue.
