The Issue

“Don’t just ground the troubled pilot—treat him.” -Reverend Walker

We propose a forensic hospital for troubled pilots (now under grant review & seeking public support).

Modern aviation has made significant strides in reducing accidental crashes. Yet, intentional aircraft crashes remain a serious and preventable risk.

Between 2011 and 2023, intentional aircraft crashes—while rare—accounted for a disproportionate share of airline fatalities

This alarming trend exposes a critical gap in the mental health support available to pilots. We must ensure that the mental health and hygiene of pilots is prioritized, not just their technical training.

This facility (located on the former Elyton School—Tuscaloosa Ave, Birmingham, AL 35216).  would provide specialized care, mental health assessments, and proactive treatment for pilots, addressing the unique psychological pressures of aviation.

The hospital would:

  •  Offer secure, confidential treatment
  • Provide forensic evaluations
  •  Conduct research to prevent intentional aircraft crashes
  •  Integrate federal aviation guidelines with state healthcare systems

The former Elyton School campus offers an ideal location—far away from hustle and bustle—with existing infrastructure that can be repurposed for minimal cost, accelerating the creation of this essential facility.

This initiative would not only improve aviation safety but also help destigmatize mental health issues within the aviation industry, providing a global model for similar facilities.

No more empty condolencesNo more lost lives—sign this petition to support the creation of a forensic hospital for pilots and ensure safer skies for everyone. 🟩‍⬛‍🎗️
