Every day, families cross Blackwood High Street opposite Thorncombe car park to reach Libanus Primary School. Despite this being a 20mph zone, speeding and careless driving are common—putting children and pedestrians at serious risk.

Since the loss of our school crossing patrol, this stretch has become increasingly dangerous. Many parents, carers, and childminders now struggle to find a safe moment to cross. There have already been alarming near misses, including incidents involving young children.

Thorncombe car park helps ease congestion on Libanus Road during school runs, but without a safe crossing point nearby, it creates a hazardous situation for pedestrians.

We are calling on Caerphilly County Borough Council to take urgent action by introducing:

 - A designated pedestrian crossing (with lights if possible), or
 - A reinstated school crossing patrol
This is about protecting our children and ensuring safe access to school for everyone in the community.
