It's time the "temporary" restrictions on over-60s Oyster Cards are removed. It has now been a year and a half since Over-60s have been unable to travel for free during morning peak hours before 9am - some of which still have to commute to get to work in the morning. Now that the restrictions are easing and people are getting back to work, the delay in restriction removal is wholly unacceptable from the Government and the Mayor Sadiq Khan. The older generation of this country should not be punished, particularly in a time of rising inflation, by ageist policies that seek to harm them further.

It is no longer acceptable for the Mayor or London, nor the government to fob off the over-60s by saying that these restrictions were put in place to ease the financial pressure on the TFL during the Covid-19 pandemic. As the restrictions are now effectively ending and tube usage has now reached a level of just over 60% of what it was pre-pandemic, it would be criminal for the Mayor and Government not to end these restrictions.
