Make BAME Education Compulsory In All UK Schools

Make BAME Education Compulsory In All UK Schools
The Issue
Currently British education is not an equal or broad education. It may teach a variety 19th century literature but the voices of people like Audre Lorde, who was actually made the New York State Poet Laureate, are completely silenced.
Our education may give a student an expansive view on post war England. But it does next to nothing to teach its students about the repercussions of colonialism. It does nothing to bring the lives of Katherine Johnson, Huey P. Newton or Bayard Rustin.
It is completely unacceptable that lessons are being taught to students who would have been on a completely different side of the history that they are being taught.
Before meaningful change can really be made people need to learn about the oppression of black people and other people of colour. People need to be made aware of the privilege they are benefitting from. They need to learn the stories of everybody, not just the white men who were writing the history books . How can a government say we are walking into a bright future when the teaching of our past isn't inclusive?
It is completely unacceptable that students and young people are having to find their own history. Sift through speeches and webpages and podcast to piece together their own culture and past. What we are being taught at the moment is not history or literature because it is not the history of the majority of people in that classroom. It is not the words of the people who were suffering. Our education is not an accurate portrayal of our world and that needs to change.
