Dear Readers, a sincere apology for the delay in writing an update. I have been on a long holiday in South Australia (where I still am) and computer problems have been part ofthe reason. When I left NSW the solitary cat was still alive and still living all by itself. Feed and water being supplied it usually every second day. It still had no company, either animal or human, and Camp Kitty was still abandoned.

This situation was and is a breach of Protection of Cruelty to Animals Act, and is a situation that the RSPCA NSW has ignored for over 4 years now. The Dept of Primary Industries seems complicit in this breach by not acting to enforce POCTA. This Government body ignores the letters I write it and has not responded even after I have requested help from my State MP to get a response!

Such is the state of Animal Welfare in NSW.

Overseas and interstate readers should understand that animal welfare in NSW has been a problem for many years. The previous Premier, Mike Baird, tried to get greyhound racing banned as a sport because of the endemic cruelty in that so called sport. Trainers had been discovered tying live animals to the training chase lines to give the greyhounds a greater incentive to run faster during the training sessions! Of course apart from the discomfort to the young kittens or other small animals used by being dragged round a training course, after the chase the greyhounds would tear the poor animal apart.

This was filmed and publicised by animal rights activists, and the then Premier thought that the animal abuse was so entrenched that the only solution was to ban greyhound racing. He tried to do that but the backlash was so severe in the greyhound industry that this ban was rescinded. The Premier resigned soon after, supposedly to `spend more time with his family’. Of course `spending time with his family’ did not last long, and he now works for a large banking organisation.

The RSPCA NSW did not (to my knowledge) disclose any of this abuse, but it was publicised by Animal Australia, the only animal rights organisation that I now support.

Recently on the news a report by Choice Magazine has been published and it highlights a `Shonky Product Award’. This goes to the pet insurance industry for selling insurance products that are virtually worthless. A big player in that Industry was the RSPCA NSW and adverts were run on TV urging viewers to buy RSPCA Pet Insurance.

So many things that the RSPCA NSW are involved in need scrutiny. Not just their commercial involvement in a Shonky Industry, but the other things that this petition has highlighted, such as the RSPCA NSW being a Public Company, and not a charity, and their appalling euthanasia rate for cats.

Readers please help. You can do this by the following,

1. Ask the RSPCA NSW to explain why they stated that `there were no welfare issues’ when there were about 200 cats living at Camp Kitty under the most appalling conditions (their email address is mail@rspcansw.org.au )

2. Ask the Dept of Primary Industries to explain why they support the RSPCA NSW with public funds of over a million dollars a year. Their email address is biosecurity@dpi.nsw.gov.au

3. Ask the Premier of NSW why the Dept of Primary Industries will not act and stop supporting RSPCA NSW. Her name is Gladys Berijiclian and to contact her you need to fill in a form on her website. Just google - NSW Premier contact details.

4. Publicise this petition by letting all your friends know about it and getting them to sign. Also make as many organisations as you can think of aware of what is going on, such as newspapers, your local animal rights groups, and supporters of the RSPCA NSW. These would include Hills Pet Food and Qantas.

This petition page is about disclosing the truth, and only the truth. If there are ever any mistakes in what I write readers need to know I will publish the details of those mistakes and apologise. Up to now I have not had to do that!

Thank you, Keith
