Hello Elizabeth, thank you for your email of 5 June 19 in response to my email regarding animal welfare issues at Camp Kitty Cowra. You are quite correct, another welfare authority was initially contacted regarding this place maybe 4 or 5 years ago. That authority was the RSPCA NSW and initially stated several times that `there were no welfare issues’. I persevered with my complaints emailing many people and eventually started a change.org petition page called Tell the RSPCA NSW that this is cruel!’ Eventually after appearing on Prime7 news the RSPCA NSW sent out about 10 vans to Camp Kitty. Most of the cats then disappeared and the RSPCA NSW will not say what happened to those cats. I have lost faith in the RSPCA NSW and have no interest in them acting in any sort of capacity. I do not expect the RSPCA NSW to contact me at all and I think your faith in them is misplaced.
Undoubtedly as you are the only other agency empowered to act on animal welfare issues in NSW I guess the cat will just have to put up with the breach of POCTA regulations.
That petition page is still running, and I will let the readers of that page know what has happened. There were many who thought that the AWL would act on this matter, but of course that is out of my control.
I have attached a photo of the enclosure where the cat is kept. I could not take the photo till 10 am this morning as the night was so misty with temperatures down to near freezing! It has been there for over 3 years now. Maybe it has got used to living like this, freezing cold in winter, blistering hot in summer, no companionship, no exercise, no proper housing, water not changed every day, all those other protections under POCTA that this cat is not getting.
I do thank you for having the courtesy to reply to me. Others do not reply, specifically RSPCA NSW and Cowra Council. If you have any ideas what else I can do to get this cat its protection under POCTA could you let me know please? I also ask, does the AWL need to contact the RSPCA NSW because of any regulations requiring that, or is that simply an arrangement that the AWL has with this other agency?
Once again thank you in anticipation of the attention you will give this matter.
Regards, Keith
Below is what AWL has told me.
