Regarding the statement from the RSPCA in their petition response that they monitor the remaining cats to ensure their welfare my photo taken 2 days ago shows two cats feeding. Observant viewers will notice many empty cat feed tins left lying around. Risk of possible damage with cut paws? Possible welfare concern? Not according to the RSPCA! I have been asked to write to Animal Liberation NSW by a reader and this i have done. Please see copy of email below. Another reader (Edith) published a long letter in my previous update which was to the Animal Justice Party. I hope between the two organisations we can get a result. Thanks for all your help. Dear Animal Liberation NSW, 9/08/2017 I have been running a petition on change.org for almost two years now, called `Tell the RSPCA NSW that this is cruel!’ It started when our next door neighbour had in his possession almost 200 cats living in the most appalling conditions, (at a place called Camp Kitty). Despite many emails to the RSPCA and Cowra Council. very little happened for a considerable time. Eventually with the help of press and television we managed to get the RSPCA to act, and the offender was taken to court and found guilty of multiple cruelty charges. Unfortunately the now convicted criminal was allowed to keep up to 33 cats! Unbelievable but true. He has also appealed against the severity of his conviction Some of the readers of this petition site have posted comments urging me to contact your organisation as they feel you will be able to help. I have contacted many organisations and bodies to try and rectify what has been an ongoing problem including the previous State Premier, all the NSW State MP’S, and the local Council (Cowra shire). The main problem now is a cat which has been kept in a solitary enclosure for approximately two years, without company and often erratic feeding. Its shelter is a metal tin kennel which has very dirty bedding (as far as I know not changed in over a year) and is frequently damp and wet from rain. It has had no contact with humans or other animals apart from a maximum of two minutes a day when it may get fed. Its living conditions are prison like with very strong fencing, well dug into the soil, and a gate with a massive padlock! It has been isolated for so long now it seems terrified of anyone coming near it and I suspect that the RSPCA has not removed it because it would be very difficult to catch. I consider this treatment to be cruel, but all the RSPCA will state is that there are `no welfare issues’. I consider the lack of supervision of this animal to be in breach of POCTA. Please is there anything that you can do to get this poor animal a decent life? I have offered to find it a good home if I can get possession of it, but my pleas always fall on deaf ears with the RSPCA. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require extra information, Many more details are as published on this petition site. Regards Keith ps I shall publish this letter on the petition site to let the readers know of developments.
