I have recently released the following information on my Petition `Premier Mike Baird, please take action to kerb RSPCA NSW indifference to animal cruelty'.He has recently implemented a ban on greyhound racing in NSW because of systemic and prolonged cruelty to animals. Apparently trainers would tie live animals to the rope and line which constitutes the `rabbit' in training sessions, thus encouraging the greyhounds to greater speeds on leaving the trap! The poor live animals would then get torn to pieces by the chasing greyhounds. These animals could be small kittens, little piglets, or any small animal! This cruelty was exposed on TV by Four Corners following an investigation by Animals Australia. I have no idea what part tha RSPCA NSW has played in the investigation, but apparently this type of cruelty has been going on for a long time. The Premier has decided that the problem is so entrenched that it cannot be rectified and has thus he has brought in this ban on the `sport'. What role hs the RSPCA NSW played in trying to curb this cruelty? It is a question that I have not heard discussed. It has been going on for a long time. Did the RSPCA have any idea that this form of cruelty was taking place? Did they bring any prosecutions? Why is this Society so secretive regarding cruelty issues? I have a lot of other questions referring to what I consider to be the RSPCA NSW's indifference to cruelty.
