The Issue

ROOTED IN OAKTON — KEEP CROSSFIELD ES AND NAVY ES (FRANKLIN FARM) IN THE OAKTON HIGH SCHOOL PYRAMID

We are committed to putting our children—not shifting boundaries—first.

As concerned parents and community members, we oppose any plan by Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) to reassign Crossfield Elementary School and Navy Elementary School (Franklin Farm) out of the Oakton High School pyramid and into Skyview High School.

We believe in thoughtful, transparent, and community-driven decision-making that respects established school communities, preserves continuity, and supports student success.

Mandatory redistricting that moves established neighborhoods:

  • Disrupts stable learning environments
  • Separates students from their peers and support systems
  • Undermines the continuity that is critical to academic and social development

Additionally, Crossfield Elementary School should be realigned to Franklin Middle School, as it has historically been. This adjustment would eliminate split feeder patterns, keep Crossfield students together with their Navy Elementary peers at the middle school level, and maintain a consistent pathway into Oakton High School. Preserving this alignment strengthens student connections, supports academic continuity, and reflects long-standing community boundaries.

FCPS should prioritize solutions that address overcrowding where it actually exists—without unnecessarily impacting established communities. Skyview High School should primarily serve families located west of Fairfax County Parkway, where growth is ongoing and capacity needs are greatest. This approach is practical, equitable, and aligned with community geography.

Strong roots build stronger futures—and Oakton’s roots run deep.

We urge FCPS to:

Keep Crossfield ES and Navy ES (Franklin Farm) in the Oakton High School pyramid
Realign Crossfield ES to Franklin Middle School to eliminate split feeders and preserve community continuity
