The council tax system is a mess. It doesn't make sense anymore and hasn't been properly reviewed since 1991 (lots of the costings for things are still based on the numbers from 1991, wtaf). Councils have more demand on them than ever - just think of how much need there is for more and better social care.

Politicians are too scared to touch council tax. They are too scared to tell us the truth about how badly council tax needs to go up a bit. Politicians think they won't get elected if they tell us the truth.

The thing is, you don't make something bad by saying it out loud. If it's already bad, it's already bad. Whether you say it or not.

And by not being honest with us, you underestimate us, and just store up problems for the future.

This petition is to tell you, Kier, Rishi - it's ok, we know council tax needs to change, and go up. 

Stuff costs more these days, and more support is needed as people live longer.

So relax. Let's have a proper open convo about how terrible council tax is. You're officially allowed to talk about it.
