Whilst I am aware that wearing a kilt at Bacon’s College is a tradition and has a part of Bacon’s uniform for many years, it is simply out dated. We firmly believe that girls should have the choice of the kilt, the summer dress and trousers when it is appropriate. Alternatively, trousers are practical and easily accessible. Due to the current events, I fully understand that this is not one of the poignant issues on the agenda, although this is an on-going, problem that needs to be controlled . Placing pupils in solitary confinement such as isolation will not help or solve the problem nor will it reduce the probability of them coming into school in trousers. I perfectly fathom that this is slightly similar to boys being unable to wear shorts in the Summer and girls wearing the summer dress. Nevertheless, this is a significant problem that directly affects girls as we are constantly encouraged to fight for what we feel is right- and in this case, it is wearing trousers. We appreciate the tradition, we do not want to bar the kilts. We would just like girls to have a choice between trousers, kilts and the summer dress.
