LANSING (WXYZ) - CLARIFICATION: Only the Judson Center’s adult group homes are in danger of closing. The rest of the non-profit’s operations will continue to operate.
I question as to why other group homes can remain open and Judson Center cannot since the budget cuts are across the board. Cameron Hosner states that the group homes are closing because the sufficient funding has not been provided to continue operating at their expected quality of care.
I am over at the group home my son lives in regularly and have not seen any lack of quality care. You walk in the door, the house is very clean, depending on what time you get there something is cooking on the stove, the boys are clean and dressed and engaging in whatever activities they choose. They are happy and content. It would be wonderful to raise salaries for the very dedicated and hard working staff, but actually even if that is not possible at this time, the bottom line is the group home residents need to have their home: this family of men have shared their home for almost 40 years and are closely connected and dependent upon each other in their daily lives.
