Covid has forced us to make so many changes to our society and impacted many things such as the way we attend medical appointments, eating, as well as many other things however, one thing that hasn’t changed during these troubling times is the way fathers or support people attend prenatal visits.  A lot of information is given during these times and one person can’t remember everything and transfer the information to the father the same as a doctor would. A miscarriage can occur at any time especially for first time pregnancy. During first time pregnancy a women needs a lot of support. Practices are given so many patients and when a miscarriage occurs they see as a number however for a family it could be the end of the world. Miscarriages happen often and go unspoken or silenced. They are even more silenced now due to covid and have little support now than ever. A women shouldn’t have to be informed one day everything is well, then go through the turmoil of the next day being told there is no heart beat. Any women finding this news out should have compassion and support from her dearest loved ones they can trust and be able to have someone advocate for themselves. It shouldn’t be expected for any women to advocate for themselves, the father of the child and to expect to mourn all at once. It should also be considered the choices that are at hand if the miscarriage doesn’t go as expected such as needed to do the medication or a spontaneous abortion. A miscarriage should be taken seriously because it can become a life threatening case. Other factors that come into play for some women are if they are rh negative and need the injection or what there options are that won’t be life threatening. Please make a change for support people or fathers to attend the prenatal visits and assist the mother to be to get informed information.
