RFK Jr.: Save and Fund the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline

RFK Jr.: Save and Fund the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline
The Issue
Across the country, more and more mothers are reaching a breaking point. A new national study confirms what so many families already know: maternal mental health is in serious decline.
Rates of anxiety, depression, and emotional distress among mothers have surged in recent years, especially among single moms and those facing financial hardship. In the middle of this crisis, one program has become a lifeline: the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline.
This hotline—available 24/7, free of charge, and staffed by trained counselors—has supported over 54,000 moms and families since it launched in 2022. It’s one of the few places where new and expecting mothers can get immediate help, in their language, without judgment.
But despite its success, the hotline is now under threat.
Federal budget cuts have led to staff layoffs and raised concerns about its long-term stability. As more moms reach out, support is being scaled back.
This is a critical moment.
We’re calling on Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Department of Health and Human Services to act:
Secure and increase funding for the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline—so it can continue to meet rising demand.
No mother should be left alone to face a mental health crisis. The hotline is working. Now it needs the support to keep going.
RFK Jr., the time to lead is now.
