Revoke the NEA’s Federal Charter

Revoke the NEA’s Federal Charter
The Issue
The National Education Association (NEA) holds a unique federal charter, granted by Congress in 1906 to elevate the teaching profession and support education.
That mission has been abandoned.
Today, the NEA functions as a partisan political organization, openly engaging in ideological activism, organizing protests, and spending the overwhelming majority of its funds on one political party and far-left causes — often unrelated to classroom education.
A federal charter is not symbolic.
It is a mark of special recognition and trust from Congress.
No organization that acts as a political advocacy machine should retain that privilege.
Lawmakers and whistleblowers have raised serious concerns that the NEA:
Prioritizes political activism over reading, math, science, and civics
Uses teachers’ dues to fund partisan causes
Pushes ideology while sidelining parents
Engages in activism far outside its original charter purpose
This petition is not anti-teacher and not anti-union. Teachers deserve respect, fair pay, and strong classrooms. But federal recognition should come with accountability.
When an organization no longer fulfills the purpose for which Congress granted its charter, Congress has both the right and the responsibility to act.
We are calling on Congress to revoke the NEA’s federal charter and send a clear message: Education comes first. Politics does not get special federal status.
Sign this petition to demand Congress revoke the NEA’s federal charter.
