Revoke the Colindale South Controlled Parking Zone
Revoke the Colindale South Controlled Parking Zone
The Issue
The proposed Colindale South Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ), set to be implemented on Monday, 27th October, operating from 8:00am to 6:30pm, raises significant concerns among the residents of Colindale, Edgware. A consultation conducted among the residents revealed that only 30% of the 220 responses supported the scheme, whereas 63% of the participants opposed it. This clear majority opposition reflects the community's dissatisfaction and disagreement with the proposed parking restrictions.
The consultation process itself was flawed, as it only garnered a mere 12% response rate from residents, indicating that the engagement efforts were insufficient in reaching a broader community consensus. Effective community consultation should aim for a higher engagement rate to truly represent the community's voice and concerns.
In light of these statistics , it is evident that the implementation of the CPZ does not align with the wishes of the majority. The residents of Colindale request a re-evaluation of the scheme that thoroughly takes into account the community's feedback and statistically significant participation rates.
We urge the local council to reconsider this decision, fostering a more collaborative environment where residents' needs and opinions are prioritized. Stopping the implementation of the CPZ in its current form will prevent unnecessary inconvenience and unrest among the community members.
The stated issues (parking generated by new developments, non-resident commuter parking, and abandoned vehicles) could be addressed through a more limited restriction (e.g. a 10:00-11:00 permit) rather than an all-day restriction - which would have a minimal impact on the local residents. Such permits are already in place in other parts of Barnet Borough.
Sign this petition to stand with the Colindale community in rejecting the current CPZ proposal and advocating for a solution that genuinely reflects the desires and well-being of its residents, ensuring equitable and convenient parking for all.
Our objections are based on the following:
- Only 30% of the 220 responses supported the scheme, compared to 63% opposed.
- The consultation response rate was only 12%, suggesting insufficient community engagement to justify such a significant measure.
- The council appears to have disregarded alternative, reasonable solutions suggested by residents.
- The stated issues (parking generated by new developments, non-resident commuter parking, and abandoned vehicles) could have been addressed through a more limited restriction (e.g. a 10:00-11:00am permit) rather than an all-day restriction.
- The introduction of an all-day CPZ is unnecessary, disproportionate, and harmful to local residents.
- The scheme will disproportionately impact elderly residents, many of whom rely on daily visits from carers, friends, and family. These essential visits will be restricted or made more difficult.
- Local businesses will also suffer from reduced customer traffic, as parking restrictions deter visitors and reduce footfall in the area.
