Revoke Sam Jones' Australian Visa and Ban Her for Wombat Distress Incident

Revoke Sam Jones' Australian Visa and Ban Her for Wombat Distress Incident
The issue
As an ardent supporter of wildlife conservation in beautiful Australia, I am devastated. Witnessing a tourist, Sam Jones, distressing our native wildlife during her visit has triggered anger and deep upset. Jones forcibly took a wombat Joey from its mother, causing evident distress to both animals. This is not just a personal grievance, it exemplifies a wider, ongoing issue of disrespect and maltreatment of our cherished wildlife by some tourists, which remains inexcusable.
Wombats are among our country’s precious, protected species. Separating a juvenile from its mother not only induce severe stress, but it could also be life-threatening for the young animal. Approaching or interfering with wildlife is illegal under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974, punishable by significant fines or imprisonment.
In her actions, Sam Jones not only displayed a blatant violation of animal welfare provisions but also exemplified a disregard for the legal framework protecting our beloved wildlife. Her actions are not representative of the respectful behaviour expected from our tourists.
To safeguard our wildlife and deter similar misconduct in the future, we demand Sam Jones’ Australian visa to be revoked, and ban her from entering our country again. We implore the Australian Department of Home Affairs and Department of Agriculture, Water, and the Environment to take urgent and decisive action on this matter.
Sign this petition now to make our voice heard and ensure the safety and respect of our wildlife remain prioritized.
