Our children's school, neighborhood  and community is touched by this deeply concerning issue since I live in this very community that is affected. A new auto repair shop, the West Coast Auto Body Shop, started operating right here in our midst. This situation deeply distresses me because the toxic chemicals used at such facilities are flagged by the State of California for causing cancer. We pride ourselves on being a "Green Zone", dedicated to resisting such industrial hazards, but the question we should be asking is: why does Los Angeles County continue to permit such businesses to operate in our area? Due to businesses like these, communities like ours are exposed to a higher risk of health hazards. At this point, I urgently invite every member of our community and beyond, who stands for environmental justice and public health, to join hands and demand the revocation of the permit given to the West Coast Auto Body Shop. Stopping this at the source will protect our community from the release of determined carcinogens and preserve the integrity of our "Green Zone". Prior to this body shop we had a Diesel mechanic shop that was operating for almost two decade. Our communities were also contaminated by a battery disposal company "Exide" that  created an environmental catastrophe. They had operated for three decades from permits that were approved by the L.A. County planning commissioner. Lead and other carcinogens were found in homes and other areas that are still being cleaned today. My father and my brother were both diagnosed with cancer, sadly they have both passed. My father at 56 and brother at 26. Stand with us and sign this petition for a fair, healthy, and green community.

Mi vecindario, escuelas de nuestros hijos y communidad se ve afectada por este tema tan preocupante ya que vivo en esta misma comunidad afectada. Un nuevo taller de reparación de automóviles, West Coast Auto Body Shop, comenzó a funcionar aquí mismo, entre nosotros. Esta situación me angustia profundamente porque los productos químicos tóxicos utilizados en dichas instalaciones están marcados por el estado de California como causantes de cáncer. Nos enorgullecemos de ser una "Zona Verde", dedicada a resistir tales riesgos industriales, pero la pregunta que deberíamos hacernos es: ¿por qué el condado de Los Ángeles continúa permitiendo que este tipo de empresas operen en nuestra área? Debido a negocios como estos, comunidades como la nuestra están expuestas a un mayor riesgo de sufrir peligros para la salud. En este punto, invito urgentemente a todos los miembros de nuestra comunidad y más allá, que defienden la justicia ambiental y la salud pública, a unirse y exigir la revocación del permiso otorgado a West Coast Auto Body Shop. Detener esto desde la fuente protegerá a nuestra comunidad de la liberación de determinados carcinógenos y preservará la integridad de nuestra "Zona Verde". Antes de este taller de carrocería, teníamos un taller mecánico diésel que estuvo funcionando durante casi dos décadas. Nuestras comunidades también fueron contaminadas por una empresa de eliminación de baterías "Exide" que creó una catástrofe ambiental. Habían operado durante tres décadas con permisos aprobados por el comisionado de planificación del condado de Los Ángeles. Se encontraron plomo y otros carcinógenos en hogares y otras áreas que todavía se limpian en la actualidad. A mi padre y a mi hermano les diagnosticaron cáncer y lamentablemente ambos fallecieron. Mi padre a los 56 años y mi hermano a los 26. Únase a nosotros y firme esta petición por una comunidad justa, saludable y ecológica.
