Hilda Lucia Solis is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party, currently serving on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for the 1st district. She made history as the 25th United States Secretary of Labor from 2009 to 2013 under President Barack Obama. Solis has a distinguished career in public service, having represented California's 31st and 32nd congressional districts in the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2009. Her earlier legislative career includes serving in the California State Assembly from 1992 to 1994 and the California State Senate from 1994 to 2001. Throughout her career, Solis has been a strong advocate for workers' rights, environmental justice, and immigrant communities.
