Revoke Craig Cooley's Medical License

Revoke Craig Cooley's Medical License
The Issue
This won't sound like a horrible thing unless you put yourself in my mom's place. Imagine being able to drive a semi, run a 6.54 mile, recognize faces, write, drive all over the country. Then in the space of 3 minutes have that all taken away.
Then imagine working hard for 6.5 years to learn how to walk up and down stairs, talk without a stutter, being able to drive a car again, regulate your emotions, live independently, be happy with your new personality. And one person's choice, not your choice. Your choice was NO MORE INJURY to MY BRAIN! But one person's choice left you MORE brain injured than you were when you first got hurt.

On July 13, 2025, my mom experienced a life-threatening episode of Status Epilepticus. Seizures that would not respond to medications. The longer a brain seizes, the more damage there is done.
She has a traumatic brain injury and has taken the responsible steps of establishing an advanced directive and living will, including a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order. Her directive clearly states that if further brain damage is imminent, only comfort care is to be provided. Despite these clear instructions, Craig Cooley, a medical professional in Georgetown, Kentucky, at Georgetown Community Hospital, disregarded her Power of Attorney and legal advanced directive. He chose to intubate her, she had been seizing at this point for 2.5 hours. After intubation she continued to seize for an additional 12 hours while in a medically induced coma. As a result, she now suffer from an irreversible anoxic brain injury worse than the traumatic brain injury she received in 2019 that caused the seizures. He also violated her HIPAA rights by sharing her protected medical information with a third party over the telephone without verification of who they were.
When confronted by his disregard of her rights, his response was to lie and gaslight. Georgetown community hospital has no plans to reprimanded him for this.
This violation of her rights is not only deeply personal but also raises significant concerns about patient autonomy and the respectful observance of legally binding medical instructions. The violation of her HIPAA rights through these actions cannot be overlooked. Advanced directives and living wills are legal documents meant to protect patients' autonomy, and any medical practitioner who blatantly disregards these documents poses a danger, not just to individual patients, but to the trust and integrity of the medical profession as a whole.
It is essential that all medical professionals adhere strictly to these legal documents to ensure the dignity and respect of patient choices, especially in cases involving severe medical conditions and end-of-life care.
Therefore, I urge the Kentucky Medical Board to take immediate action by investigating Craig Cooley's actions and consider revoking his medical license to prevent future violations and protect patient rights. This will send a strong message that the violation of such crucial patient rights will not be tolerated. Sign this petition to stand with me in advocating for accountability and ensuring that our medical community respects every patient's legal and personal healthcare decisions.
