Revive Tar Road on NH48 Mumbai - Ahemdabad Highway

Revive Tar Road on NH48 Mumbai - Ahemdabad Highway
The Issue
Subject: Petition to Halt Concretisation of NH48 Charoti-Dahisar Highway and Reinstate Tar Road for Improved Safety and Traffic Conditions
Dear NHAI
We, the undersigned citizens, are writing to express our grave concern regarding the ongoing concretisation work on the NH48 Charoti-Dahisar highway. We believe that this project will have detrimental effects on both road safety and traffic conditions, and we urgently request that you halt this work with immediate effect and consider reviving the tar road instead.
The primary reasons for our petition are as follows:
- Safety Concerns: Concretisation of roads is known to lead to increased skidding accidents, particularly in the rainy season. The smooth surface of concrete roads lacks the necessary friction, which is crucial for vehicle control, especially at higher speeds. This poses a significant risk to all road users, including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
- Heat Absorption: Concrete roads tend to absorb and retain more heat compared to tar roads, leading to higher surface temperatures. This can be detrimental to the durability of the road as well as to the health and comfort of road users and nearby residents.
- Traffic Congestion: The ongoing construction work has already caused severe traffic disruptions and congestion on NH48. Commuters and transport vehicles are facing long delays, which affect daily activities and economic productivity. The prolonged construction period will only exacerbate these issues.
- Maintenance Issues: Concrete roads, while durable, are harder to repair. Any damage to a concrete road often requires extensive and time-consuming repairs, which can lead to prolonged traffic disruptions. In contrast, tar roads are easier and quicker to repair, ensuring minimal inconvenience to the public.
- Environmental Impact: The production and laying of concrete are associated with higher carbon emissions compared to tar. Switching back to tar roads can contribute to a reduction in the environmental footprint of road construction activities.
In light of these points, we respectfully urge you to:
Immediately halt the concretisation work on the NH48 Charoti-Dahisar highway.
Conduct a thorough impact assessment to evaluate the safety and efficiency of the current project.
Consider reviving the tar road to ensure better safety, reduced congestion, and easier maintenance.
We believe that prioritizing the safety and well-being of the public, along with sustainable and efficient traffic management, should be the primary objectives of any road infrastructure project. We trust that you will take prompt and appropriate action in response to our concerns.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to a positive and swift resolution.
Sincerely,
Ram
