Revise Terms for Ex-Prime Minister's Public Duty Costs Allowance (PDCA)

Revise Terms for Ex-Prime Minister's Public Duty Costs Allowance (PDCA)
The Issue
As a citizen deeply affected by the current economic climate, I find it disconcerting that while ordinary people struggle with a cost of living crisis, wage stagnation, high inflation and soaring household bills, we as taxpayers are subsidising an allowance for individuals whose policies have left millions of families facing steep rises in annual mortgage payments. This is in reference to the Public Duty Costs Allowance (PDCA), which can be claimed by ex Prime Ministers. Introduced after long standing PM Margaret Thatcher left office, this allowance currently stands at up to £115,000 per annum for life. Even Liz Truss was entitled to this after serving just 49 days and being forced to resign due to poor performance.
If benefits received by ordinary citizens are conditional on various factors and include punitive sanctions, why should this one be any different? It is time we call for a review of the terms under which an ex Prime Minister can claim PDCA. The allowance should have a minimum term and be scaled based on length of service, performance and conduct during tenure.
We believe that public funds should be used judiciously and not doled out without proper scrutiny or accountability. Let us demand fairness and transparency in how our taxes are utilized. Sign this petition today if you agree that changes need to be made regarding the PDCA terms!
