Revise / Change the Wisconsin State Flag for Better Representation

Revise / Change the Wisconsin State Flag for Better Representation
The Issue
The current Wisconsin state flag, adopted in 1981, has been a symbol of the state's history and identity. However, it is time to reconsider its design to better reflect the diversity and progress of our state. Many have argued that the flag's complex design makes it difficult to recognize at a distance or when not fully unfurled. According to North American Vexillological Association (NAVA), a good flag should be simple enough for a child to draw from memory, which is not the case with our current flag.
Moreover, an updated design could incorporate elements that represent all Wisconsinites - including indigenous communities like the Menominee and Ojibwe tribes who have lived on this land long before it became known as Wisconsin.
We propose that an open contest be held for residents of Wisconsin to submit designs for a new state flag. This would encourage civic participation and ensure that any new design truly represents what Wisconsin means to its people today.
Let us come together as proud Wisconsinites and call upon our local representatives to consider this change. Sign this petition if you agree that it's time for a new symbol of unity and pride in our great state.
