Reverse the One-Way Traffic System in Wexford

Reverse the One-Way Traffic System in Wexford
The Issue
In July 2025, Wexford County Council implemented a new one-way traffic system affecting several key streets in our community, including John Street, School Street, and the remainder of John Street up to Hill Street. This change has drastically altered the daily lives of residents, commuters, and local businesses in the area.
Under the new system, traffic on John Street is only permitted to flow from the junction at St John's Road and George's Street towards Hill Street. As a result, access from Hill Street onto John Street has been permanently closed. The second phase of this traffic system also affects School Street and the remaining portion of John Street, further complicating traffic flow and accessibility.
These changes have not only increased travel time and confusion for drivers but have also had detrimental effects on local businesses due to reduced footfall and accessibility challenges. Additionally, emergency services may also face delays, as the altered routes can complicate direct access to these streets.
We believe that community input is crucial in urban planning decisions that impact daily life and economic activity. There was insufficient consultation with the residents and business owners who are most affected by this one-way system.
We urge Wexford County Council to reassess and reverse the one-way traffic implementation, restoring the previous traffic flow system. Doing so would alleviate the current issues faced by residents and businesses, and ensure a more convenient and accessible environment for all.
Sign this petition to help us bring about positive change in our community’s transportation infrastructure and save even more traffic congestion in our return to schools in September 2025.
Your voice can change the world. Now is the time to pull together.
the petition will be sent to head of roads in Wexford County Council.
