Reverse the KGV iGCSE Curriculum Changes

Reverse the KGV iGCSE Curriculum Changes
The Issue
The King George V School administration has recently published a newsletter detailing various changes to the school curriculum August 2025 onward.
This project, comprised of and backed (supported) by students spanning across Years 9, 10, 11, and 12, are completely opposed to a number of these changes, in particular, the removal of the Triple Science IGCSE course, the implementation of MORE WIN (What I Need ) time and other blatant misinformation within the newsletter.
We, building on past experiences, believe this will:
Harm KGV students’ growth (Particularly in preparation for IB courses)
Hinder motivation for us to learn
Reduce future opportunities for KGV students (As the name suggests, TRIPLE science students are awarded THREE GCSEs, whereas DOUBLE award students get TWO)
Many recipients of this newsletter are oblivious to the differences between the triple and double award courses, and thus an overwhelming majority of (current) Year 9 parents and students will be unaware of the actual change in curriculum. This fact obliges us as students, who know precisely from experience, to rise and speak from experience.
A good portion of us writing this are Year 10 students who are currently learning the iGCSE curriculum, but also include Year 11s, 12s, and Year 9s. It is NEVER better for a school to offer LESS than what it already provided. We cannot settle for mediocrity as an educational institution. Additionally, do not take the misinformation in the original letter. The ‘student community’ was never consulted, nor were the parents of upcoming Y10s. Many current Year 9 parents are already confused, panicked and baffled at the unconsulted changes.
We also find concern within the changes to subjects. New subjects, such as 'Thrive' and a new adaptation of the existing PSHE subject seem like unnecessary changes towards our development. WIN time is a privilege but not mandated for us, as we should be given the autonomy to choose how we allocate our school hours. The school has confused us by this change to the policy, an incredible hypocrisy given how our school values champion student choice and autonomy. As WIN is 'What I Need', the school SHOULD offer this for struggling students - but the attempt to make this mandatory for all when we originally had a choice is baffling.
As a whole, we as students are concerned and disappointed at these proposed changes. We want to ensure that KGV’s education standards do not WORSEN, especially upcoming Y10 Triple students who will be directly affected by this change. We highly hope the school values their students' opinions as much as the school proclaims to and will listen to our concerns.
