Reverse harsh parking policies at Stepping Hill Hospital

Reverse harsh parking policies at Stepping Hill Hospital
The Issue
I'm a healthcare professional working at Stepping Hill Hospital, and I'm reaching out to address an urgent issue affecting many of us. The recent changes to parking measures at the Stepping Hill Hospital site have made each day start with stress and end in frustration. As staff members who pay for parking, we deserve fair and reasonable access that does not worsen our already challenging work routines.
The hospital management has now subcontracted parking enforcement to a private company, which has led to a significant reduction in parking spaces available to staff. This change has forced us to drive around aimlessly searching for parking spots, wasting valuable time that could be otherwise dedicated to patient care. Not only has this situation led to congestion and increased carbon emissions, but it also adds unnecessary stress to our day.
More concerning are the poorly defined parking criteria, which have resulted in threatening infringement letters being sent to staff. This is not only demoralising but also unjust. Many of us begin our shifts at 9:00 or 13:00, and the current policy unfairly discriminates against those with young children who need to be dropped off at school, as well as staff with disabilities who already face additional challenges.
This is not just about convenience; it's about developing a supportive environment for healthcare workers who are already putting in long, demanding hours to keep our community healthy and safe. A resolution to this issue is not only feasible but essential. We propose the following actionable solutions:
1. Re-evaluate the subcontract with the current parking enforcement company to ensure fair practice and better-defined parking criteria.
2. Increase the number of designated staff parking spaces to accommodate all working shifts.
3. Establish flexible parking solutions that take into account the diverse needs of all staff members, including those with young children or disabilities.
These changes not only restore dignity and fairness but also allow us to focus our energy on patient care instead of the daily struggle to find a parking spot.
Join me in urging the Stepping Hill Hospital management to recognize and address this pressing issue. Your signature can help pave the way for a balanced solution that respects the needs of those who tirelessly serve the community. Please sign this petition to bring about change.
