We were inspired by Plastic Sucks by Dougie so much so that we created @plasticsucksdougiedoesnt where we post about the book and about ways to reduce plastic etc.

This petition is for Mr Plastic Sucks himself  Dougie Poynter from the band McFly. This is a call for you to think about the plastic waste at concerts/festivals (I’m sure you have thought a lot about this) and I know you have worked with Go Outdoors to campaign about the amount of rubbish (especially tents) left behind at festivals. We would love you to consider the idea of reusable cups at your indoor/outdoor shows. Let’s make it happen!

As Mcfly embark on their tour in Brazil I have seen many posts with McFly themed reusable plastic cups (ok they’re plastic but they’re reusable and not single use).

So this got me thinking about McFly tours and outdoor shows.

Now I bet most of us have been to a McFly show or any show for that matter and grabbed a drink from the bar now this is great keeps you hydrated but what they come in isn’t great and is a huge problem, single use plastic cups, or plastic bottles. 

Another problem being what happens to all these hundreds of cups at the end of the show they get left behind for the magical fairies to clean up.

Music Festivals, on average, generate 23,500 tonnes of waste which includes plastic bottles, food waste, abandoned tents and clothing.

During McFly’s current tour in Brazil I noticed a lot of photos where people were holding plastic reusable cups (none official I believe) that they could use at the shows. A fan made me aware that it’s a thing they do over there at festivals and shows to reduce plastic waste.

So we have decided to start this petition for McFly to get/use reusable cups for their shows in the future. Other artists like Ed Sheeran have also had reusable cups at their shows.

A suggestion by another McFly fan was that you could pay money towards a cup say a couple of pounds and if you return the cup you get your money back or theirs an option to keep your cup.

There are a couple of options to reusable cups

1. Being the one in our photo which has the Mcfly logo etc
2. Just a general plain cup which could be used then returned and reused again 

Please sign our petition if you like this idea, if you are passionate about avoiding/reducing plastic waste, are a mcfly fan who would love a merch cup, an avid concert/festival goer that’s sick of seeing all the plastic left behind at the end of shows.

*EDIT* Since starting this petition I have been made aware some venues and festivals are already doing this! Which is amazing but it needs to be more more accessible and widespread.
