Retain Weekly waste pick-ups in City of Swan

Retain Weekly waste pick-ups in City of Swan
The issue
The City of Swan is commencing its FoGo initiative, resulting in each home receiving an organic waste bin. While these efforts are commendable in driving waste sustainability, there are understandable concerns that have come up. The plan includes a reduction in our general waste bin size and changing collection to fortnightly, rather than our current weekly pick-ups.
We acknowledge the benefits that the FoGo initiative may bring in aligning with the country's National Waste Policy 2018. However, consider the potential disruption and difficulty a smaller bin with reduced pick-up frequency would cause for large households, businesses, or those with specific waste needs. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the average household in City of Swan produces 1.5 tonnes of waste per year, which may not fit in smaller bins, leading to public litter and overflows.
Our request is not to cancel the FoGo initiative but to consider maintaining our current general waste bin size or keeping weekly pick-ups. This action would strike a balance, promoting environmental consciousness while minimising disruption to our community life. We urge all residents of the City of Swan to sign this petition to present a strong and unified appeal to our council.
