Retain Simi (Simrit) Cheema in the Next 100 Years Program

Retain Simi (Simrit) Cheema in the Next 100 Years Program

The Issue

This petition is to express our collective concern regarding the potential removal of Ms. Simrit Cheema, better regarded as Simi, the highly respected and valued teacher from The Next 100 Years Program at Tamanawis Secondary School Surrey, BC, Canada.

Simi has consistently demonstrated dedication and commitment to the success of the students' she involves herself with. According to Statistics Canada, educators who have long-term relationships with their schools contribute significantly to student achievement (Statistics Canada, 2019). Simi has been part of this program for five years. She has built relationships, learnt what works for the best for program and its students, and has connected to what The Next 100 Years truly stands for: acknowledgement and interconnectedness.

Simi knows exactly how to connect with students; she ensures they feel safe and heard. She builds relationships genuinely and brings warmth and joy to the program, making the values of the program stand out and accessible when learning. Simi brings irreplaceable insight and experience that would significantly deter the program for if she is removed.

Removing Simi would not only disrupt the learning environment but also negatively impact student outcomes. For majority, Simi is the encouragement to join and keep going with the mentorship program. We urge for a reconsideration of this decision to maintain our beloved educator in the program. Please sign this petition if you support maintaining quality education for students of the Surrey School District.
