Restrict Heavy Trade Traffic and Parking Violations on Haddon Grove

The Issue

Haddon Grove, our small residential street in Sidcup, has been under unceasing strain due to trade vehicles passing in high numbers throughout the day on their way to businesses in the Oval. Specifically concerning are heavy goods vehicles and multi tonnage trucks that use this residential road.

The ongoing situation also causes poor parking since there is limited space at the end of the street. There is widespread parking violations, which means local residents cannot access the public footpaths easily or cross the road safely.

This constant flow of traffic has also ended up causing damage to our residential street (potholes and very poor tarmac, broken pavements etc) and disrupting the safety, tranquillity, and convenience of the residents.

For many of us, including the elderly, who require walking or wheelchair access, and families with small children, our street has become a busy and sometimes dangerous space, instead of a residential community space. The risk for accidents has greatly increased, and it feels as though our safety concerns have been ignored.

In addition to safety concerns, the GMB Union reports that heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) cause an estimated £1.2bn damage to roads across the UK per year. These costs ultimately fall on taxpayers while the HGVs are prominently guided by profit without regard for residents' needs.

It's time for us to say enough is enough. We call on our local council to take urgent and sustained action. While recognising the vital role HGVs play in our local economy, we humbly suggest they be rerouted thereby restricting continuous use of residential streets and enforcing necessary parking regulations.

Preserving the safety and desirability of our streets now is the only way to ensure a peaceful and secure environment. Please, sign this petition and stand with us in our call for change.
