Restrict allotments to cultivation and small livestock

The Issue

In our local community, allotments have become a source of frustration and disappointment for many of us who cherish the idea of growing our own fresh produce and raising small livestock. With allotted spaces increasingly transforming into private playgrounds, complete with trampolines, slides, swing sets, and paddling pools, the very essence of what these plots were intended for is being lost. These misuses are not only turning potential arable land into wasteland, but they are also bringing noise disturbances that are disrupting the peace and causing discomfort to animals and their owners.

Allotments should be sanctuaries of cultivation, places where the hard work of growing fruits, vegetables, and rearing animals for personal sustenance and community sharing is celebrated. When misused, they can instead become domains of noise and disruption, harming the community spirit and undermining their intended purpose.

The rules surrounding allotment use need to change. I urge local authorities to enforce regulations that limit allotment activities exclusively to the cultivation of fruits and vegetables and the rearing of small livestock such as goats, chickens, and ducks. This change would ensure that allotments serve their true purpose—contributing to food security and promoting sustainable living.

Moreover, this would significantly reduce noise pollution and prevent illegal activities that currently plague these spaces. By restoring the allotments to their original purpose, we can foster a more harmonious community environment and support the local ecosystem by encouraging agricultural practices that reduce carbon footprints.

Let's come together to preserve the integrity of our allotments and make a positive change for our community and environment. Sign this petition to support enforcing the proper use of allotments for cultivation and small livestock only.
