The Issue

Parking in the Hastings Sunrise area of Vancouver has always been abit of a challenge but the frustration has further increased for many residents. Up until recently, I was able to park in front of my own home, which I have been doing for 20+ years. Now, all I see are 'no parking' signs, and it's become impossible to park. Where am I, and many of my neighbors and guests supposed to park now?

We were not properly informed that 1000's of feet of street parking was going to be removed.

The changes brought on by recent traffic calming measures near Clinton Park, the Adanac Overpass, Windermere Street, Charles Street etc. have significantly reduced the availability of residential parking. These initiatives, while well-intentioned in their aim to improve traffic flow and enhance safety, have inadvertently created a major inconvenience for residents who rely on street parking.

The city's intent with these measures is understandable, but the impact on daily life for residents has been profound. Many of us are now forced to park streets away, which isn't just an inconvenience—it's unsafe, especially during late hours. Additionally, this change could negatively impact property values as potential buyers often consider parking availability.

According to the City of Vancouver's own data, urban areas with poor parking availability see a decline in resident satisfaction. It's crucial that a balance is struck between traffic regulation and community needs. We propose a re-evaluation of the current parking restrictions, with input from the local community, to find a less disruptive solution.

We urge the City of Vancouver to reconsider the recent parking reductions and to engage with local residents to develop a plan that accommodates both traffic calming objectives and the essential needs of the community. Parking shouldn't be a daily struggle, and our neighborhoods should be convenient and safe for all who reside here.

Please sign this petition to call on the City of Vancouver to restore residential parking in Hastings Sunrise area and ensure that traffic measures do not override the fundamental needs of the residents. Together, we can find a solution that benefits everyone.

I encourage people to write in the comments below about specific intersections that they see issues around.
