Restore Quarry for Narangba
The issue
Imagine a group of young teenagers, filled with excitement and energy, spending their afternoons and weekends crafting dirt jumps, feeling the thrill of the ride, and embracing the great outdoors. These tracks weren’t just piles of dirt — This spot was a haven for youths, channelling their energies positively and keeping them away from less productive hobbies. Now, picture these very spaces bulldozed, leaving only memories; and disheartened and frustrated riders behind.
The teenagers and their parents of Moreton Bay are heartbroken. The sudden destruction of the beloved tracks/jumps lacks consultation and consideration for those who enjoyed it. It is baffling that a place that represented community unity, cooperation and the joy of being in nature would be so thoughtlessly demolished.
Mounting evidence has shown links between active outdoor lifestyles and improved mental and physical health. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, physical activity can reduce depression and anxiety, improve mood, and boost overall wellbeing. Our local MTB track provided much needed respite from screens and encouraged kids to engage in healthy, active lifestyles.
The thoughtless decision to bulldoze these tracks is not only sad but counterproductive. It is a concerning move that directly impacts the mental and physical health of our children. We propose that Moreton Bay Regional Council takes actionable steps to support our community by investing in the establishment of an official, maintained MTB track. This initiative would not only restore a cherished activity for thousands of residents but also demonstrate the Council’s commitment to healthy living, support for recreational spaces, and empowerment of our youth.
Join us in urging the Moreton Bay Regional Council to prioritise the health and happiness of its residents. Your signature can be the catalyst for change-help us rebuild a vital part of our community, in Narangba and for Narangba youth. Please sign this petition to show your support and demand action from the council today.
