We, the residents and commuters of Durham Region, are writing to you out of sheer frustration and desperation. The cancellation of express train services on the Lakeshore East GO Train line for over 3 years has been nothing short of a disaster for thousands of hardworking Ontarians who rely on public transit to keep their lives moving.

This isn’t just about longer travel times; it’s about the hours of our lives that we will never get back. Families are missing precious moments together. Workers are spending more time on crowded trains and in traffic than they are with their loved ones. Students are exhausted before they even reach their classrooms. This project, which promised to improve our commutes and was slated to be complete by September 2024, has already missed its deadlines, leaving us feeling forgotten and neglected.

Every single day that express trains remain unavailable, countless hours are wasted—hours that could be spent with family, pursuing education, or contributing to our economy. For many of us, the delays have added 30-60 minutes to our daily commutes. Over weeks and months, this adds up to hundreds of hours lost.

We understand that large-scale infrastructure projects take time, but the lack of transparency and communication about the delays is unacceptable. As taxpayers, we deserve better. We deserve answers. We deserve action.

We call on you to take immediate action to:

 1. Restart Lakeshore East Express Trains: Expedite the completion of all work necessary to restore these vital services.

 2. Provide a Detailed Timeline: Offer a clear, public timeline for the completion of this project and hold contractors and stakeholders accountable.

 3. Prioritize the Community: Recognize the profound impact this delay has on our quality of life and treat the restoration of express train service as an urgent priority.

We, therefore, urgently request Ontario's Premier and all Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) of Durham region to restart express train services at the earliest, alleviating us from the tedious extensions in travel and enhancing provincial connectivity. Moreover, transparency on this matter is vital; we insist on a clear and definitive timeline for service restoration.
