Restore and Relocate the Sikh/Punjabi Mural in Canberra

Restore and Relocate the Sikh/Punjabi Mural in Canberra
The issue
We, the undersigned residents of Canberra, wish to express our sincere gratitude to the ACT Government and the relevant authorities involved in arts and multicultural initiatives, as well as the artist, for creating the beautiful mural of a Sikh/Punjabi man in late 2015 on Comrie Street, Erindale, ACT, which celebrates our city’s rich multicultural community.
Unfortunately, the mural has now been defaced and is located in a place where not many people are aware of it, which reduces its visibility and impact on the community.
We respectfully request the ACT Government to:
1. Restore or reinstall the mural in a more visible and protected location.
2. Consult with local Sikh and Punjabi community organisations for future projects involving cultural art and heritage, so that constructive community input can be included.
This mural is more than just artwork – it is a symbol of our culture, identity, and pride. We hope the ACT Government will take action to preserve and honor our multicultural heritage.
