Restore academic freedom and Christian values at Aquinas Institute

Restore academic freedom and Christian values at Aquinas Institute
The Issue
We, the undersigned concerned parents and alumni of Aquinas Institute, respectfully request a meeting with the Board of Trustees to discuss the following grievances and concerns.
Goodness, Discipline, Knowledge
Goodness: there is concern that the core tenant of Goodness is missing in our classrooms
Discipline: there is concern that Discipline is lacking and/or unevenly being administered
Knowledge: there is concern that inappropriate information is being advanced as core Knowledge
Our Concerns, Annunciated:
In recent years, Aquinas has drifted from its Christian Core Beliefs and Mission, to accommodate political correctness. The school hides behind a façade of paper mâché Catholicism and is more closely aligned to a secular world view with a non-biblical explanation of life and justice. There is clear evidence of a “woke” ideology embraced by members of the school’s board, administration and faculty.
At present, there is evidence of an active tolerance of, and in-class promotion of, Critical Race Theory, White Privilege indoctrination, organizations like Black Lives Matter, Inc., transgender promotion, systemic racism and liberal political indoctrination, all while stifling traditional values of the trident Catholic faith, good citizenship and American patriotism. The administration continually denies any of this is occurring.
Most recently, the school’s response from the President, Dr. Cook, and Administration to alumnus Robert Agostinelli’s presentation on Nov. 5th has thrown a spotlight on how far from our Core Beliefs and Mission the Institute has drifted, by taking steps to disavow Mr. Agostinelli’s comments immediately following his presentation. There is a conscious culture of the tyranny of thought, accompanied by tactics of intimidation and clear intent of silencing dissent. This has led to a fear of reprisal among parents and students.
It appears that Aquinas has strayed from a classic curriculum, and is not being true to essential Christian beliefs and Roman Catholic Doctrine. We enroll our children in Aquinas to receive a God-centered classic curriculum in an environment of academic freedom. We are committed to ensuring steps be taken to fully restore Aquinas to this curriculum and learning environment.
Our Requests, Respectfully Stated:
We respectfully request that the January 24th Board meeting set as the agenda to present and discuss the above-referenced concerns with parents and alumni allowed to address the board. In the alternative, quickly schedule a separate special board meeting to directly present and discuss these concerns.
We request that Aquinas replace the NY Common Core curriculum with a God-centered classic curriculum, aligned with the philosophies of St. Thomas Aquinas and Christian values that teach children how to think, not what to think. The administration and faculty must be directed to take the necessary steps to insure this occurs.
We further demand immediate action to ensure that no administrator or teacher seeks to indoctrinate students with a particular dogma or self-serving version of current events that reflect personal philosophies or viewpoints. There is no place in our school for such heinous conduct.
We request that Aquinas return to and follow its true foundation based on the principles of St. Thomas Aquinas and Congregation of St. Basil; restoring an air of academic freedom, consciously and actively supporting good citizenship, firm and just discipline, and unbridled patriotic fervor to flag and country.
We look to see these issues addressed immediately and we have the will and the means to give our concerns a public spotlight until these critical issues are corrected, eliminated and resolved.
Not that long ago, Aquinas Institute taught that America was an exceptional nation. Alumni cherished the opportunities this God-blessed land afforded us, irrespective of color, gender or creed. It can do so again. It is our collective duty to our current student body and broader Aquinas community to provide this gift to all future generations, so help us God.
Signed; The undersigned concerned parents and alumni of Aquinas Institute
